Morning Practice Tour

Sumo wrestlers training at a stable’s morning practice | Morning practice tour

Feel the power of Japan’s traditional culture up close

The morning practice tour is a rare chance to experience the world of sumo, Japan’s national sport, with all your senses. We take you inside a real sumo stable for the morning session — something television can never convey. The thud of bodies colliding, the sweat flying, the tension in the room. Watch the wrestlers’ serious early-morning training up close and glimpse both Japanese tradition and the wrestlers’ daily lives.

Clear commentary from an expert guide

Throughout the session, your guide gives quiet real-time commentary from behind you. From basic drills such as shiko (leg stomps), teppo (pole striking) and butsukari-geiko (charging practice) to the full-force moshiai bouts, you will learn what each movement means and where it comes from — which makes everything in front of you far more rewarding to watch. No prior knowledge of sumo is needed.

Meet the wrestlers and take photos to remember

After practice, there is time to meet the wrestlers directly in a relaxed atmosphere. Ask questions, take photos together on the dohyo, and make memories you will keep. Seeing the wrestlers’ friendly side — so different from their fierce expressions in the ring — brings the world of sumo much closer.

The morning practice tour lets you experience Japanese tradition with all five senses and gain a real understanding of sumo and the people who devote their lives to it. With warm interaction with the wrestlers, it is an experience you will not find anywhere else. Whether you are a sumo fan or simply curious about Japanese culture, take home an unforgettable memory of Japan.
